An Analysis of Patent Lawsuit Data

In the United States, patent lawsuits have been a trending topic in recent years. In this blog post, we will analyze data from 2017 and 2018 to see how these trends are evolving. Specifically, we will investigate what types of patents are being sued for and what industries have been impacted by patent infringement cases.
Data compiled for the last decade of patent lawsuits in the United States shows some interesting trends. For instance, it seems that the more patents a company has, the more likely they are to be sued. This is not always true but there does seem to be an upward trend line when comparing companies with 1-5 patents to those with 5-10 and 10+ patents.  The data also indicates that if you’re going up against Apple or Google, your chances of winning are slim – these two companies have won 99% of their cases so far. It’s important to note though that this doesn’t mean you should give up if you’ve got a case against one of these giants; after all, nobody can win 100% of their cases forever!
